God is Great. That's a Fact. : One Year Bible Reading for April 26

Today we read from the One Year Bible in theses verses:

Judges 6:1-40
Luke 22:54-23:12
Psalm 95:1-96:13
Proverbs 14:5-6

Let's look at the Psalm. The writer of this Psalm is blurting joy all over the place. He's spouting. He says, "Come on, let's sing to God about how happy we are. Let's shout out loud to God because He's the Rock of our Salvation!"

This is in the Old Testament. So many people today act like God was a mean, picky jerk who you had to tiptoe around. But God doesn't change. Our understanding of God changes, and we see our understanding growing from the Old Testament to the New, where John tells us that God IS love. But even back in the OT days, they were so exceedingly happy about how awesome God is that they were shouting about it.

Because, and here is the point: God is great. God is awesome. Those are facts. In fact, those are some of the only facts that stand alone without any modification needed. You should build your thinking around the pillars of truth that we find in the phrases "God is great" and "God is awesome".

If you deny these things (like Christopher Hitchens famously tried to do), you're just starting off your calculus with a bad equation, and everything you write after that will be wrong.

God is great. Let's sing about it.

God, thanks for being so awesome.
