Jesus Welcomes Sinners: One Year Bible Reading for April 12

Today we read these verses in the One Year Bible:

Joshua 5:1-7:15
Luke 15:1-32
Psalm 81:1-16
Proverbs 13:1

Let's look at Luke. He says very clearly, "This man welcomes sinners and eats with them." It's a Pharisee saying it, and he's trying to condemn Jesus. Little does he know that A) Jesus is God Himself, and B) he, the Pharisee, is a worse sinner than the people Jesus is eating with.

We should be so glad that Jesus welcome sinners. Because that's you and me! But let that sink in. Jesus welcomes you AS A SINNER. He sits down with you and eats dinner, while you were yet sinning. John 3:16 tells us that while we were yet sinners, Jesus died for us.

I don't have to tell you that He won't leave us that way. You know from my other blogs that He makes us holy. Only saints go to heaven to be with Him forever. And that's what we want, too, right? We don't want to live forever in heaven with people who are nasty and mean and selfish. Ourselves included! We want to be perfect in heaven, and live with other people who are also loving and kind and patient.

But don't forget - even while you're sinning - Jesus welcomes you. So don't stay away!

God, thanks for reminding us that You love us - even while we're sinning.
