Drawn to Holiness: The One Year Bible Reading for April 11

Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:

Joshua 3:1-4:24
Luke 14:7-35
Psalm 80:1-19
Proverbs 12:27-28

Let's look at Joshua. The children of Israel are given marching orders - and they are to follow the ark of the covenant, but not get too close to it. We remember what happens when someone touches the ark who isn't holy - they die.

And that's a little snapshot of why we're called to be saints. God is holy, and in order for us to be in His presence, we have to be holy, too. That's why when Peter first meets Jesus and realizes Who He is, he says, "Depart from me, for I am a man of unclean lips", and that's why the angel takes a coal from the fire and purifies the lips of Isaiah in Isaiah 6. We have to be pure before we can meet with God and be in His presence, or His holiness will be our undoing.

God, thanks for calling us to holiness so we can be with You.
