Today we read from the One Year Bible in the following verses:
Numbers 11:24-13:33
Mark 14:22-52
Psalm 52:1-9
Proverbs 11:1-3
Let's look at Numbers. Moses takes the advice of his father-in-law and appoints judges to listen to the people's concerns. This takes trust, right? Do you see why? Before, Moses was using the old tried and true maxim "if you want anything done right, you have to do it yourself" to rule Israel and settle people's problems. But in order to utilize the help of the judges, he has to let go of those reins and trust them to handle the smaller problems.
That's not easy, but we all need to learn it. It's not healthy for us to think that we have to do everything if it's going to get done right. We need to trust other people. That doesn't mean we let unqualified people make choices that will hurt us and those we love. But it does mean accepting that not everything will always be "perfect", or the "perfect" that we envision in OUR minds. And it means that we can spend more time on fewer tasks, and do better quality work.
God, teach us to trust those who are trying to help us.
