What We Do In Suffering: One Year Bible Reading for March 28

Today we read from the following verses in the One Year Bible.

Deuteronomy 9:1-10:22
Luke 8:4-21
Psalm 69:19-36
Proverbs 12:2-3

Let's look at the Psalm. The writer is in anguish - he's been dishonored and scorned by his enemies. He's feeling pain, both physical and psychological. His emotions are raw. And his response isn't perfect - instead of forgiving his enemies, he hopes for their downfall.

But.

He praises God. Even in the midst of his suffering. And if that's not the most important lesson we have to learn in life, it's definitely in the top three. We are GOING to suffer. Like we're told in The Princess Bride, life is pain. Anyone who says differently is selling something. But what we DO with our pain determines whether we've learned the lesson yet - and whether we'll allow that suffering to make us into better people. If you want to listen to one of the wisest things ever written about suffering, watch this video and listen.

God, thanks for teaching us what to do when we suffer.
