Listening to Correction: The One Year Bible Reading for February 26

Today in the One Year Bible, we read from these verses:

Leviticus 19:1-20:21
Mark 8:11-38
Psalm 42:1-11
Proverbs 10:17

Let's look at Proverbs 10:17. "Whoever heeds discipline shows the way to life, but whoever ignores correction leads others astray." That's very simple to read. Not much complicated about it, right? Very straightforward.

But how hard is it to actually DO? Do you listen when someone corrects you? Or do you, like me, come up with all of the reasons why they're wrong and you're right? It's not fun to receive correction, whether it's someone at work saying you did something the wrong way, or someone at church saying you need to change your ways, or a cop handing you a speeding ticket, it's always a time to feel grumbly.

BUT.

One thing that God is teaching me right now (and therefore also teaching YOU right now) is that God works EVERYTHING for our good. Even when "Karen" is sticking her nose in your business. Even when you're stuck at a stoplight that hasn't changed to let you turn in what feels like three hours. No matter how frustrating your situation, no matter how annoying it is that someone is correcting you, the Proverb above is true: Listening to correction is wise, and ignoring it is foolish.

God, thanks for teaching us to find Your hand in everything, even the most annoying.
