Today we read from the following passages in the One Year Bible:
Exodus 37:1-38:31
Matthew 28:1-20
Psalm 34:11-22
Proverbs 9:9-10
And in the Psalm we are taught a lesson that will enable us to live a happy life. Don't believe me? It literally says just that in Psalm 34. If you want a good life and see many happy days, what should we do?
Not lie.
Seems simple, right? But some people have a big problem with this. Just tonight, a man lied right to my face. He promised he'd pay me money to give him a ride back to his hotel. We get to the hotel and he completely stiffs me and leaves. He's creating a life for himself that isn't happy. You know why? Well, many reasons. But one of them is that when you lie, especially if you lie all the time, you have a hard time believing other people. You assume they're lying to you, too. And that foundation of mistrust does not allow you to grow healthy, happy relationships. And that's one of the biggest sources of happiness that we have in life.
God, thanks for teaching us that being honest is how we build happy lives.
