St Julie Billiart: Teaching Through Adversity

Today we read about St Julie Billiart in the book In Caelo et in Terra. When she was a little girl, she memorized the entire catechism, and began teaching other children. She spent the rest of her life teaching children about Jesus and the Bible and church.

She was home with her father one day and someone shot a gun into their home. No one was hurt, but it so agitated Julie that her health deteriorated from stress and anxiety until she was paralyzed and bedridden. She continued to teach from her bed for many years.

One day a priest came and asked her to pray a novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. She did, and when she finished he invited her to stand. She was healed and was able to walk the rest of her life, which she dedicated to teaching and serving God. You can read more about her here.

What is God inviting you to do today? In what way has your past incapacitated you? How does He want you to stand up and walk into your future?

God, thanks for the miraculous example of this wonderful teacher. St Julie Billiart, pray for us.
