saying what we mean

Today's readings: Hosea 10:1-14:9, Jude 1:1-25, Psalm 127:1-3, Proverbs 29:15-17

Both the OT and NT reading today talk about saying things we don't mean. In the OT, we read about people who make covenants they don't intend to keep. This reminds me of Lumiere's advice above. And then in the NT, the writer of Jude tells us that we should not be like the people who are "grumblers and complainers, living only to satisfy their desires. They brag loudly about themselves, and they flatter others to get what they want."

So the take home lesson is twofold. Talk less, listen more. And don't say things you don't mean. As Jesus said, let your "yes" be yes and your "no" be no. Anything more than that is from the evil one.

God, please help us to use our words to heal and not hurt.
