i recently saw 'burn after reading'. to me, it was a mixed bag.
.
it was VERY funny in places. and the fargo lady and george clooney and brad pitt and john malkovich were all VERY good in their roles, and very believable, and very funny.
.
the story is the usual mess that we expect from the coen brothers. and by 'mess' i mean big syrupy pile of amusing bits thrown together in a heap of entertaining meaninglessness. and by 'meaninglessness', i mean that they Strive to be 'without meaning'. they TRY to point to meaninglessness in the world. which is often poignant and interesting and somewhat true.
.
but this time, i think, they went too far. the ending, if you can call it that, was pointless ad absurdium. the VERY end of the movie was pointless and offensive enough that it left a very bad taste in my mouth. i feel like my fav movie critic teddy durgin when he saw a recent movie and said the first 117 minutes were fantastic. it was that last 118th minute that killed the whole movie for him.
.
it bothers me when people take Christ's name in vain. it's especially offensive when they use 'f**ing' as His middle name. and to end the entire movie with this phrase, said not once, but twice, was just too much for me.
.
i don't think the rest of the movie was good enough to off-set the offensiveness and lack of good taste in that disgusting ending.
.
i was very disappointed.
