Today in the One Year Bible we read from Matthew 5:27-48. Jesus is calling us to an even higher level of moral goodness than the Old Testament law did... and that was already difficult!
But as Jesus says in the last verse, we are called to be perfect, as our heavenly father is perfect. That's one aspect of holiness... to be less like the world (sinful, imperfect, unholy, dirty, immoral) and more like God (sinless, perfect, holy, clean, moral).
How can we do this on a practical level today? Seek Him and ask Him to show you how YOU can seek this perfection. Maybe you're called to fast from eating certain days. Maybe He's calling you to give up movies or TV shows or both if they're having a negative influence on you. Maybe He's calling you to spend less time online. Perhaps you're called to volunteer in a homeless shelter. It's not a one size fits all situation. He calls all of us to holiness, but sometimes in different ways.
How is He calling you to perfection today?
God, thanks for calling us to be holy and perfect like You. Help us to achieve this impossible goal.
