we leak

In the One Year Bible reading for today, we see these verses:

1 KINGS 1:1-53
ACTS 4:1-37
PSALM 124:1-8
PROVERBS 16:24

Peter and the other disciples are healing people and proclaiming the kingdom. The go back to their room and the earth shakes and they're filled with the Holy Spirit.

But wait. Weren't they already filled with the Holy Spirit at Pentecost? And didn't Jesus breathe on them and say "receive the Holy Spirit"? Why do they have to be filled so many times? 

Well, for the same reason that you and I have to go to church every week (or every day!). Because we leak. God gives us His love and His spirit, but a few days later we're running low again. 

So here's another reason to go to church! You're running low on His gifts. Get to church so He can fill you up again.

God, thanks for refilling us leaky children.
