God does things we don't expect

We read these verses today in the One Year Bible reading:

2 SAMUEL 20:14-21:22
ACTS 1:1-26
PSALM 121:1-8
PROVERBS 16:18

We begin the book of Acts, and we see several examples of God doing things we're not expecting. One is simple and funny, the other very profound.

When they're deciding who is going to replace Judas as the twelfth apostle, they're choosing between two men. One is Joseph, known as Barsabbas, and also called Justus. We're given quite a bit of info about this guy's names. And then another guy named Matthias. So since we're given so much info about Joseph, you think it's gonna be him.

But no, it's Matthias. This story always makes me laugh.

The other example is the disciples are asking Jesus when the kingdom will be restored to Israel. This, they think, is one of the main reasons the messiah has come. But Jesus has bigger plans. He gives them the baptism of the Holy Spirit and send them to spread the kingdom of God throughout the world.

What situation in your life are you asking God about? Maybe He's going to surprise you, as He loves to do, and do something bigger than you can imagine.

God, thank You for being above our thoughts so we can trust You with everything.
