Jesus died deliberately

In the One Year Bible reading for today, we read these verses:

2 SAMUEL 17:1-29
JOHN 19:23-42
PSALM 119:129-152
PROVERBS 16:12-13

In John, we read about Jesus on the cross. Most people would be crying out in agony or maybe spouting nonsense with their minds broken. But Jesus spoke very deliberately. He gave his mother to John to take care of her. He forgave those who crucified Him. He said, "I thirst", which seems like a throw away, unimportant concession to His human nature. But it might actually be the most important thing He said on the cross. Read The Fourth Cup by Scott Hahn to learn why. His drinking that cup fulfilled the sacrifice He was offering for the sins of the world. That's why, once He drank, He THEN said "It is finished." He had completed His work on the cross, redeeming the universe from sin, and then He said, "Father, into Your hands I commend my spirit", deliberately dying so that He could go plunder hell and then rise again from the dead on Sunday.

No one took His life from Him. He gave it willingly and deliberately to save us all from sin and death.

Have you put your faith in Him yet? He will save YOU from your sins, both in this life and for eternity, if you pray and ask Him to. Then go find a local church or local Christian and ask them how to begin following Him every day. He'll transform your life.

God, thanks for Your very deliberate work on the cross, saving us all from sin and death.
