when darkness reigns

Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:

Judges 4:1-5:31
Luke 22:35-53
Psalm 94:1-23
Proverbs 14:3-4

Let's look at Luke. Jesus is being arrested, and He asks the religious leaders who are arresting Him why they're treating Him like a dangerous criminal and arresting Him at night when He's been teaching in the Temple for a long time. "But this is your time, when darkness reigns," He says.

There's a lot of darkness in the world right now, and a lot of bad stuff is happening. We know that God will bring everything to light in the end and that those doing evil now will not get away with it. In the meantime, let's keep being salt and light in our communities, sharing God's love with everyone and waiting for the day when we won't need a sun anymore because He will be our light source.

God, thanks for bringing light into the darkness.
