how to invest in eternity

 Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:

Joshua 3:1-4:24
Luke 14:7-35
Psalm 80:1-19
Proverbs 12:27-28

Let's look at Luke. Jesus tells us very clearly how we can invest in eternity. He says that when you have a banquet, don't invite wealthy people or your friends and relatives. Because they will probably invite you to theirs. But instead, He says, invite the poor. Those who cannot possibly pay you back. Because, He said very clearly, "You will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous."

So if you don't want to waste your money, invest in the poor. The more you help the poor, the bigger your reward in heaven. Don't throw away your money on bigger houses and nicer cars and more expensive meals. Instead invest in the things that last - other people, especially those who need your help.

God, thanks for teaching us how to invest in eternity.
