Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:
Joshua 22:21-23:16
Luke 20:27-47
Psalm 89:14-37
Proverbs 13:17-19
Let's look at Luke. Jesus has some harsh words for the teachers of the law that are trying to trap Him. He says they love to make big lengthy prayers in public but their hearts are far from God.
When we're on social media, it's easy for us to do something similar. It's called "dropping a truth bomb" and it means that you say something that's true in an online discussion, then just walk away and let the people in the chat try to come to terms with it.
It's not very charitable. God does call us to speak the truth online. But we need to make sure we always speak the truth in love. And sometimes that means taking time to help those who we're discussing with understand and accept the truth we tell them. Of course, we're not responsible if they decide to reject the truth despite our best efforts. But we need to make sure to take the time to help them understand it.
God, thanks for teaching us not to be modern day Pharisees and drop truth bombs.
