being yeast

Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:

Deuteronomy 33:1-29
Luke 13:1-21
Psalm 78:65-72
Proverbs 12:25

Let's look at Luke. Jesus tells us that the kingdom of God is like the little bit of yeast that a woman kneads into sixty pounds of dough. A little goes a long way, and affects the whole product.

That's what we're called to do in the world. As we look around, we see lots of things wrong with the world. But you and I are called to knead the love and grace and kindness and peace of God into the world around us. You'll notice as you do this that a little really does go a long way. Just a smile or a kind word can literally save someone's life.

How can you be yeast in your world today?

God, thanks for teaching us to use our small sphere of influence to change the whole world.
