why we shouldn't worry

Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:

Numbers 16:41-18:32
Mark 16:1-20
Psalm 55:1-23
Proverbs 11:7

Let's look at Mark. Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome went to the tomb with some spices to anoint Jesus's body. On the way there, they were worrying about who would move the stone away from the entrance to the tomb so they could go in and minister to His body.

When they got there, they realized they'd been worrying for nothing. God had already moved the stone.

The Bible tells us not to worry. "Be anxious for NOTHING," it says, "but in everything pray about it - tell God what you need, and thank Him for all that He has done. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will guard your heart and mind through Christ Jesus." (Phil 4:6-7)

Most of the things we worry about will never happen. The things that DO happen are all within God's ability to control and take care of. God tells us very clearly not to worry.

So if you find yourself worrying about something, pray about it. Give it to God. And ask Him to take away your worry and fill your heart and mind with His peace.

God, thanks for teaching us not to worry about things You're already taking care of.
