who Jesus is

Today in the One Year Bible we read these verses:

Deuteronomy 11:1-12:32
Luke 8:22-39
Psalm 70:1-5
Proverbs 12:4

Let's look at Luke. The disciples are in a boat with Jesus, and a storm comes and threatens to sink the boat. I think we can all relate to the panic the disciples were feeling. Haven't you ever felt like your boat was sinking?

And then Jesus calms the storm. The waves calm down, too. He stills the night. And His disciples say something very interesting. They don't say, "How did He do that??" or "Where did He get that power??" Instead, they ask, "Who is this? Even the storm and waves obey Him."

Who is He? That's the biggest question in the universe. If you get the answer to that question right, you will follow Him and have the best life possible, followed by eternal life. If you get that question wrong, your life will be so much less than it could be.

This is why Jesus asked His disciples, "Who do you say that I am?" Which is also an odd question. Not, "What do you think of my teachings?" or "What do you think I'm doing?" But "Who do you say that I am?" And the answer is the Messiah, the Christ, the Son of God - God Himself.

That's a huge realization. Have you made it yet?

God, thanks for using all of the Bible stories to teach us the most important fact: who Jesus is.
