refusing to believe: One Year Bible Reading for December 18

Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:

Habakkuk 1:1-3:19
Revelation 9:1-21
Psalm 137:1-9
Proverbs 30:10

Let's look at Revelation. We see something sad and scary here. It says, "The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, still did not repent of the work of their hands. They did not stop worshiping demons... nor did they repent of their murder, their magic arts, their sexual immorality, or their theft."

Like Douglas Adams in the picture above, they see the works of God happening all around them and still refuse to believe. There's a famous story of an atheist named Emile Zola who heard about the miraculous healing happening in the waters at Lourdes. He said, "If I go and see someone miraculously healed, then I will believe in God." He went and saw someone with visible wounds all over their body go into the water and come back out with fresh, new, pink, healthy skin. Zola said, "Even though I have seen, I still don't believe."

No matter what arguments you give someone, no matter what proof, unless God changes their hearts, they won't repent and be saved. That's why PRAYING for your lost friends and family is so important. It is in fact THE MOST important thing you can do for them. They won't believe unless God changes their hearts.

God, thanks for changing our hearts so that we can be saved.
