our lives are short: One Year Bible Reading for December 25

Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:

Zechariah 8:1-23

Revelation 16:1-21

Psalm 144:1-15

Proverbs 30:29-31

Let's look at the Psalm. David says that God is amazing because He pays attention to us little people whose lives are so short. Like a shadow, he says. And that's a good reminder today, Christmas. Because it really is important for us to remember the reason we celebrate Christmas. Yes, it's good and important to share family time and to enjoy a meal together and exchange some gifts. But the more important meaning is that we are celebrating that God loved us so much He sent His son, who was born as a little baby in a stable, to save us from our sins. Me and you. Who live tiny, short little lives. Even smaller to God than ants are to us. But he loved us so He took on flesh and lived among us.

That's pretty amazing.

So amazing, in fact, that we should remember it and live lives worth saving. We should remember that life IS short, so we should live it.

This is your life. Right now. Every breath. Every second. This is it. Don't waste it.

Live it.

God, thanks for loving us so much that You gave us the best gift of all for Christmas - Yourself.
