it's all about love: One Year Bible Reading for December 6

Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:
2 John 1:1-13
Psalm 125:1-5
Proverbs 29:9-11
Let's look at 2 John. We actually read the entire book of 2 John today. And since what I have to say is pretty simple, let's just read the entire book together. It's 13 verses.
"The elder,
To the lady chosen by God and to her children, whom I love in the truth—and not I only, but also all who know the truth— because of the truth, which lives in us and will be with us forever:
Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Father’s Son, will be with us in truth and love.
It has given me great joy to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as the Father commanded us. And now, dear lady, I am not writing you a new command but one we have had from the beginning. I ask that we love one another. And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.
I say this because many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist. Watch out that you do not lose what we[a] have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully. Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. 10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take them into your house or welcome them. 11 Anyone who welcomes them shares in their wicked work. 12 I have much to write to you, but I do not want to use paper and ink. Instead, I hope to visit you and talk with you face to face, so that our joy may be complete.13 The children of your sister, who is chosen by God, send their greetings.
So we see here that John repeats the same theme that he talks about in his gospel, and in his first epistle (which we call 1 John). Love. It's all about love. "A new command, but one that we've had from the beginning. Love one another." That's what the Christian life is about. So many people think that being a Christian is about avoiding sins. That it's about NOT doing "those things". But we are called to do so much more - and so much better - than that. We are called to love. That doesn't mean having fuzzy warm feelings about each other. It means being kind and praying for each other. Wanting good things for each other. And even WORKING to bring out good things in other people's lives.
Let us love one another.
God, thanks for reminding us of the command that we've had from the beginning - to love one another.
Hosea 4:1-5:15
