Don't Forget What's Important: One Year Bible Reading for November 5

Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:

Ezekiel 12:1-14:11
Hebrews 7:1-17
Psalm 105:37-45
Proverbs 27:3

Let's look at the Psalm. David is reminding the children of Israel of all the amazing things God did for them when He rescued them from Egypt. He made the Egyptians WANT them to leave, so they gave them gifts and were glad they were gone. He fed them manna and quail in the desert, and gave them fresh water from a rock. He even gave them a cloud by day and a flame by night, both to reassure them that He was with them, and to protect them from heat and cold.

And they were so grateful that they crossed the desert in just a few weeks and entered the holy land praising His name. Right? Wrong. They complained. All the time. About everything. They literally said they wanted to go back to Egypt because at least they had good food there. They wanted to go back to slavery!

They forgot what's important. And it's easy for us to do the same thing today. It might get even harder in the coming years, if persecution intensifies. But whether it does or not, we need to keep in mind what's important. Sure, we ENJOY Starbucks drinks and Netflix shows. But if we have to give them up to follow Jesus, get ready to count the cost. It's important that RIGHT NOW we decide what's most important, and prepare to give up whatever it costs for that MOST IMPORTANT THING.

God, thanks for reminding us not to forget what's most important. You and Your children.
