wise in our own eyes: One Year Bible Reading for October 25

Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:

Jeremiah 48:1-49:22
2 Timothy 4:1-22
Psalm 95:1-96:13
Proverbs 26:9-12

Let's look at the Proverb. They're all good, so let's read them all.

Like a thornbush in a drunkard’s hand
is a proverb in the mouth of a fool.
10 Like an archer who wounds at random
is one who hires a fool or any passer-by.
11 As a dog returns to its vomit,
    so fools repeat their folly.
12 Do you see a person wise in their own eyes?
There is more hope for a fool than for them.

I wanna talk about that last one. If you're wise in your own eyes, you're not going to listen to anyone else. You might remember my other blog where I talk about the guy who had dinner with someone from another country and instead of asking questions and learning about their country, he told him all of his half baked ideas about the country where the other man lived for years.

If we're wise in our own eyes, we'll never become wise. That seems counterintuitive. But if you think you know it all, you never ask questions. And if we don't ask questions, we'll never become wise.

God, thanks for giving us the key to unlock wisdom.
