man plans, God laughs

Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:

Jeremiah 44:24-47:7
2 Timothy 2:22-3:17
Psalm 94:1-23
Proverbs 26:6-8

Let's look at the Psalm. It says, "The LORD knows all human plans: He knows that they are futile."

That seems bleak, doesn't it? Does that mean we shouldn't plan anything? Just play everything by ear all day long? Well, no. Of course not.

But we tend to get a little too sure of our plans sometimes. We think "I'll do this and then this will happen and then I'll do THIS and it'll be great!" And then we're surprised and dismayed when our plans fall apart.

Let's trust God to work things for our good. Make plans, knowing that things might not go that way. Always keep a little "God willing" in the midst of your plans. Keep it humble.

God, thanks for reminding us that we need humility in our planning.
