understanding depression: One Year Bible Reading for October 30

Today we read these verses in the One Year Bible:

Lamentations 3:1-66
Hebrews 1:1-14
Psalm 102:1-28
Proverbs 26:21-22

Let's look at Lamentations. I recently read in a book group I'm in on FB someone looking for a book that was good for when you're depressed. Not to cheer you up, she said, but just to make you feel understood. Well, I'll tell you. If you are feeling depressed as a follower of Jesus (and almost all of us get that way sometimes), read Lamentations. BOY will you feel understood!

Today, the writer says, "He (God) has driven me away and made me walk in darkness rather than light." And there is a very real sense in which we do that while here on Earth. This is the valley of tears. This is the place of shadows. The evil one is running crazy here, and every news story you read proves how much crazier everyone is getting while under his influence.

But don't let the darkness overwhelm you. In this world, you WILL have troubles. But take heart! He has overcome the world. He has already won the battle. Just keep breathing and putting one foot in front of the other. You'll see the victory soon.

God, thanks for bringing us through the darkness and into Your light.
