Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:
Jeremiah 35:1-36:32
1 Timothy 5:1-25
Psalm 89:14-37
Proverbs 25:25-27
Let's look at the Psalm. It says something pretty profound, especially since it comes from the Old Testament. It says, "Justice and righteousness are the foundation of Your throne, love and faithfulness go before You." I've talked about this before in my blogs, but it definitely bears repeating. God is at LEAST just. Everything He does is fair and just.
But His actions go way beyond mere justice. He is so generous in His mercy, grace, forgiveness, and love, that justice is superseded entirely. It's the FOUNDATION of His throne, and He will never act UNjustly. But He often (usually) doesn't give us what we deserve. Instead, He gives us great and wonderful gifts from His boundless creativity and generosity. We deserve punishment. But He gives us love and eternal life instead. Not in any way unjustly... but superseding justice in love.
Let's learn to supersede justice and act in love to those in our lives, as well.
God, thanks for giving us gifts instead of what we deserve. Help us learn to do the same.
