a crossroads: One Year Bible Reading for October 6

Today we are reading from these verses in the One Year Bible:

Jeremiah 6:16-8:7
Colossians 2:8-23
Psalm 78:1-31
Proverbs 24:26

Let's look at Jeremiah. The prophet says, "Stand at the crossroads and look: ask for the ancient paths." And he goes on to say that if they choose wisely, good things will happen to them. And if they choose poorly (Spoiler alert: they choose poorly) then bad things will happen, including the destruction of their nation and their subjugation into captivity by another empire.

You and I stand at a similar crossroads today. The United States is in peril. We are in very real danger of being taken apart, both by other, rising, strong countries, and by people within our country who are working for its destruction for their own personal gain. Let's pray for our country, that good will prevail and truth will come to light.

But you and I stand at another crossroads every day. We must choose, each day, whether we will serve Jesus and be kind and loving to those who come our way, or if we are going to be selfish and treat those who come into our lives harshly.

What will you choose?

God, thanks for reminding us that we have crossroads to choose from. Help us to choose wisely.
