we will pass through fire: One Year Bible Reading for September 20

 Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:

Isaiah 33:10-36:22
Galatians 5:13-26
Psalm 64:1-10
Proverbs 23:23 

Let's look at Isaiah. First, he's saying something both terrifying and exciting. God is rising up and destroying His enemies. He's striking down those who do evil on the earth.

And then Isaiah asks an interesting question. "Who of us can dwell with the consuming fire?"

That's a question we all need to ask ourselves. Because God IS a consuming fire. He burns away anything in us that isn't love. So if you want to invest your life in things that will last forever, don't waste your time on things that will burn. Invest in people. Love people. That will last. That won't burn when the fiery love of God purifies us. That is the gold that survives the fire.

God, thanks for teaching us how to dwell with consuming fire.
