true religion: One Year Bible reading for August 26

Today we read these verses in the One Year Bible:

Job 23:1-27:23
2 Corinthians 1:12-2:11
Psalm 41:1-13
Proverbs 22:5-6

Let's look at the Psalm. It says, "Blessed are those who have regard for the weak." And this (in James 1:27) is what we're told real religion is. To take care of those who can't take care of themselves. Widows. Orphans. The unborn. Those who are very sick. The extremely poor. We are commanded by God to take care of those people. That what we do for them, we're actually doing for Jesus Himself.

So what can you do today for the weak? THE MOST effective thing you can do for them is to pray. Pray for them! Maybe God will also call you to do something with your hands and feet to meet their needs. But prayer is the best answer to every need that arises in our lives. Take it to God. Pray without ceasing!

God, thanks for teaching us to take care of the weak.
