perfect comfort!: One Year Bible Reading for August 26

Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:

Job 20:1-22:30
2 Corinthians 1:1-11
Psalm 40:11-17
Proverbs 22:2-4

Let's look at 2 Corinthians. It works out perfectly that we talked about bad comfort last night. Because tonight we talk about the opposite! Just read theses words with me:

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort.

That is the kind of comfort that we should aim for - rooted in the perfect comfort that God gives us, and bathed in prayer. That's perfect comfort!

God, thanks for teaching us what good and bad comfort look like! Help us comfort those who are hurting in our lives.
