Love > Justice

Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:

Ezra 10:1-44
1 Corinthians 6:1-20
Psalm 31:9-18
Proverbs 21:3

Let's look at 1 Corinthians. Paul is shaming those in Corinth for going to court with people who sue them. He says that it's ridiculous to let them make a judgment over Christians since they don't even live according to the same strict teachings that the Christians do. He tells us that we should practice love above all - and to give extra to someone who sues us. To err on the side of letting someone take advantage of us rather than insist on our rights and go to court against them.

Now, I think we should think about what Paul is saying, and sometimes practice it literally. If someone sues you for something, try to settle out of court and help them instead of hurting them. But take his advice in the bigger sense: let LOVE be the rule you live by, rather than being worried about getting your fair share of everything. Be generous, instead of being selfish. Follow that as your law, and you'll find yourself in court far less often.

God, thanks for teaching us that love is greater than justice.
