insolent fury: One Year Bible Reading for August 20

Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:

Esther 8:1-10:3
1 Corinthians 12:27-13:13
Psalm 37:1-11
Proverbs 21:23-24

Let's look at the proverb. It says that the proud and arrogant person behaves with insolent fury. We're seeing a lot of fury these days. Sometimes you'll read an article that DEMANDS that you get angry about something. "If you're not angry, you're not paying attention" they claim. Or "This is why you should be angry about..." They're now not only not giving us facts, they're giving us their spin AND telling us how to feel about it.

I don't mean any particular political party. I don't even mean any certain country. We're seeing this spin and anger nonsense throughout the world. It's so crazy that it's causing many people to rethink who they trust on all of the issues.

In the midst of all this "insolent fury", we Christians should remain calm. Pray for change, yes. WORK for change, yes. Realize that WE ourselves need change more than anyone, yes. But God doesn't call us to insolent fury. He calls us to love.

God, thanks for reminding us how to remain sane in a world gone mad.
