Waiting for God: Bible reading from January 5

Today our reading from the One Year Bible is from the following verses:

Genesis 11:1-13:4
Matthew 5:1-26
Psalm 5:1-12
Proverbs 1:24-28

The verse that jumped out at me is from Psalm 5:3. We present our requests before God and then we wait expectantly. And waiting can be hard, right?

We are assured that God is not slow in keeping His promises. That He takes the right amount of time to do things and to answer our prayers. Sometimes the most important part of the prayer is the waiting time between when we ask and when He answers. Because - let's be honest - we tend to spend time with Him when we're waiting, but once He answers our prayers, we often scamper off to enjoy the thing we prayed for.

Let's learn to listen as much as we ask. For our prayer to be with our ears as much as with our mouth. To learn to agree with God - which is to think what is true.

God, thanks for teaching us to wait.
