Today we read from the One Year Bible in the following passages:
Genesis 23:1-24:51
Matthew 8:1-17
Psalm 9:13-20
Proverbs 3:1-6
And in the gospel passage, we read about a Roman centurion. That's what they looked like in the picture above. In this case, a Roman soldier came to Jesus and asked for his servant to be healed. Jesus asked if he wanted Him to come to his home, and the soldier said, "Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my servant will be healed." Those of you who are Catholic will recognize this statement - we say it, or a slightly altered version of it, before we receive the Eucharist. Instead of "servant", we say "soul". But the idea, and the faith, is the same.
Jesus marveled at this man's faith. He said that He didn't find faith like that in all of Israel. This Roman centurion showed them all up. The cool thing is, you and I can learn from his example. We can piggy back off of his faith and learn to put OUR faith in Jesus the same way. We can say with the centurion, "God, I know you can take care of this situation I'm facing by just saying the word."
Can you stretch to have that faith today?
God, thanks for teaching us how to put our faith fully in You.
