Today we read from the One Year Bible in the following passages:
Genesis 41:17-42:17
Matthew 13:24-46
Psalm 18:1-15
Proverbs 4:1-6
And we're told in these verses some important things. That we should listen to our parents because they have wisdom to teach us. And that's very true. However, we all know that our parents have limitations to their wisdom, right? And in most centuries past, that was a problem because you could only learn what your family taught you, or if you went to some kind of school, you could learn what the smart people who taught there thought.
But today we're not limited to any of those things. We can learn the best and smartest things thought by men all over the world. If you look at the picture above, you see a kid learning from his mom. And that's a great source of wisdom. But if mom says something that sounds strange (like that the earth is flat?) you can jump on that computer in the picture and find out if it's true.
But that takes us to another level. There are lots of people out there who are lying to us. There are huge and powerful organizations that profit from telling us things that aren't true. I won't go into all of them because we're focusing on what's true, not what's not. But do your research. If what your parents say sounds weird, respect them, but check out if it's true or not. If your local doctor tells you something strange, do some research and find out.
And one way you can test all of these things is to read the Bible. The Bible tells us the truth. Once we learn what the truth sounds like, what it TASTES like, then we can recognize the lies when they come to us from whatever source.
God, thanks for giving us good parents to learn from. And for giving us other sources to learn even more.
