The Seven Thai Martyrs of Songkhon: They Knew

Today we celebrate seven brave men and women who lived in Thailand at the beginning of WWII. Christianity was made illegal due to mistrust in the government toward the intentions of Christians in the war efforts. Many Christians in Thailand left their faith in light of the intense persecution. But Philip continued to teach many people about the faith. One day he was summoned to the office of the government. He knew that he might be going to his death, but he bravely went anyway. They shot and killed him. Then several nuns and other Christians were also taken out to the cemetery and shot for their faith. You can read more about them here.

Jesus told us to be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. We know that in this world, we will have trouble. That our faith might just cost us our lives eventually. Let's be sure to count the cost NOW so that we're ready if we are put to the final test, like these faithful Christians in Thailand were.

God, thanks for opening the eyes of these believers, and opening our eyes through their story. Seven Thai Martyrs of Songkhon, pray for us.
