Today in the book In Caelo et in Terra, we read about a real hero of our faith. Maximilian Kolbe lived in Poland (God bless Poland!), and felt called to religious life from a young age. He had a vision in which Mary appeared to him and offered him two crowns, a white one representing purity, and a red one representing martyrdom. She asked him to choose, and he chose both.
He and his fellow Franciscan brothers hid over 2000 Jewish people from the Nazis. He spoke out openly against the Nazis and wrote articles and journals, and used the radio and other media to fight for the truth. This, of course, infuriated the Nazis. He was arrested and sent to Auschwitz. When a couple prisoners escaped, the Nazis decided to kill ten people to deter others from escaping. One of the ten cried out that his wife and children would lose him if he died. Maximilian Kolbe volunteered to take his place. He and nine others were starved for a week, and when he still wasn't dead, they injected him with carbonic acid and he received the red crown of martyrdom.
The man who he replaced attended his canonization as a saint along with his wife, children, and grandchildren. You can read more about St Maximilian Kolbe here.
We live in a time when we face a great evil like St Maximilian Kolbe did. Just questioning the official narrative can get you killed today. Just ask the president of Haiti, or the presidents of four other countries who challenged the official narrative being pushed around the world and have now mysteriously died. The US government (of all groups) just published a list of "terrorist" actions to be on the alert for, and that list included questioning the COVID narrative or making vaccines mandatory, or "believing" there was election fraud in 2020 or that Trump could be reinstated as President. It also mentions "religious activities" as being possible terrorist actions. There are some dark forces at work in the world. Be prepared to stand up to evil, and to share the light and love of Jesus with everyone in this great darkness.
God, thanks for the amazing and inspiring example of this martyr. St Maximilian Kolbe, pray for us.
