Our Lady of the Assumption: The First of Many

Today we celebrate Our Lady of the Assumption. We read about her in the book In Caelo et in Terra.  Mary was, of course, the mother of Jesus - the mother of God. The Bible says that all generations will call her blessed - and so we do.

She loved Jesus like no one else ever had or ever will. She suffered as He died on the cross, and rejoiced when He rose from the dead. The church teaches that she was also bodily assumed into heaven, where she lives with Jesus forever.

We will also be assumed into heaven one day - either alive when Jesus returns, or risen from the dead if we've died before He returns. We don't know for sure if Mary died and her body was assumed, or if she was assumed before she died. Either way, we who follow Jesus can look forward to joining her with Jesus in heaven for eternity.

God, thanks for giving us this day to remember the woman who was mother to Jesus. Our Lady of the Assumption, pray for us.
