St John the Baptist: Preparing the Way for Jesus

Today in the book In Caelo et in Terra, we read about St John the Baptist. His was a very unusual life! His birth and his name were foretold by an angel. He went and lived in the desert and ate locusts and wild honey. He told everyone they should get ready for the Messiah, and baptized them as they repented of their sins and prepared for Jesus to come and change their lives. He was arrested and beheaded for speaking the truth. You can read more about him here.

There are so many things we could say about John. But the thing I'd like to focus on is how he prepared the way for Jesus. He called everyone who listened to him to repent of their sins and get ready for Jesus to come and transform them into new people. How is God calling YOU to get ready for what Jesus wants to do in your life? How might He be calling you to help other people to turn away from their sins and get ready for Jesus's work in them?

God, thanks for the wonderful life and example of this unusual man. St John the Baptist, pray for us.
