Most of my readers are familiar with the story of Sts Elizabeth and Zechariah. Their story is found in the gospel accounts of the birth of John the Baptist. You can read more about it here.
The interesting thing about the story is that the Word that John the Baptist "made way" for in the wilderness was Jesus. Jesus was the Word, spoken by God, that saved all of creation. And that Word came to be after the silence that Zechariah experienced before he named John.
What silence in your life is anticipating something? How does God speak into your silences and bring you to life? Do you need to carve out some silent time to "make way" for the work of the Word in your life?
God, thanks for the silence that You gave this man and the life that You spoke into it. Saints Elizabeth and Zechariah, pray for us.
