Today in the book In Caelo et in Terra, we read about a very unique individual. Blessed Hildegard Burjan was born as a Jewish person, but after narrowly surviving kidney disease, she converted to Catholicism. She felt called to help the poor, and did something very unusual in response to this call - became a politician!
She was the first woman elected to the Austrian parliament. When she became pregnant, her doctors advised that she abort her child because her health was precarious. She defied them and had a healthy baby girl. She did much good in her short fifty years and died in 1933. She was canonized in 2012. You can read more about her here.
What strange or unique thing is God calling you to do today? Bishop Fulton Sheen said something interesting about that. He said that “Whenever man attempts to do what he knows to be the Master's will, a power will be given him equal to the duty.”
God, thanks for the example of this holy politician. Blessed Hildegard Burjan, pray for us.
