Sts Philip and James: Come and See

Today in the book In Caelo et in Terra, we read about two of the original Apostles, Philip and James. We call this James "the Less" because we want to keep it clear that he wasn't the James who was the brother of John, the son of Zebedee.

We actually don't know much about either of them. The reason we celebrate them together on this day is because we found relics of both of them and created a Basilica in which to house them.

What we DO know is that Philip encouraged his brother to "come and see" what Jesus was doing and saying. It was one thing to describe these things to him, but if he were to come and see for himself what Jesus was like, his life would be forever changed.

He did, and it was.

You can read more about them here.

We can do the same thing today, of course. As much as we might try to share with other people what God is doing in our lives... it will never make as much of an impact as if they just "come and see" for themselves what He does when we open our hearts to Him.

God, thanks for the example of these two apostles. Sts Philip and James, pray for us.
