Today we read about a very interesting and salty individual, St Brendan. If you want to read an EXTREMELY well written book about him, I recommend Brendan by my second favorite author, Frederick Buechner. You can read it here. We read about him today in the book In Caelo et in Terra.
Brendan was born in the 5th century in Ireland. He was a sailor, and explored much of the area around Ireland in his little boat. You can read more about him here.
He traveled a great and tumultuous sea in his little boat. His prayer was, "Help me, o God, for my boat is so small and Your sea is so great!" And that's a prayer we can all relate to. We are all sailing our little boats through a huge sea. And we can call on the same God Brendan did to help us.
We can even ask Brendan himself to pray for us, since he's a saint.
God, thanks for the example of this brave sailor. St Brendan, pray for us.
