St Juliana of Cornillon (of Liege): Focusing on Jesus got her in Trouble

Today in the book In Caelo et in Terra, we read about St Juliana of Cornillon (also known as St Juliana of Liege). She was from Belgium, and was extremely intelligent. She learned Latin and read the church fathers in that language. She also had a very strong devotion to Jesus in the Eucharist, and had some mystical visions in which God showed her that there needed to be more focus on the Eucharist in the church.

Eventually these visions led the Bishops of the church to celebrate the Feast of Corpus Christi. But not until after Juliana's death. During her lifetime, she was violently opposed by many people in the church, including her own superior in the monastery where she was a religious sister. She had to leave, in fact, and spent the last ten years of her life living among other orders. She didn't get to see the results of God's revelation to her during her lifetime, but thankfully as a saint she now gets to enjoy the fruits from heaven.

You can read more about her here.

God, thanks for reminding us how important Jesus is, as we find Him in the Eucharist. St Juliana of Cornillon, pray for us.
