Blessed Maria Ludovica de Angelis: Do Good to All, no Matter Who They Are

Today in the book In Caelo et in Terra, we read about Bl Maria Ludovica de Angelis. She was born to a large family in Italy, but felt God calling her to Argentina. So she moved there and worked for the next fifty years, doing good to everyone. You can read more about her life as she worked in the hospitals of Argentina at this website. Her famous saying was, "Do good to everyone, no matter who they are." That's a lesson that I'm trying to learn myself. I encountered it in a very powerful form in the life of my favorite saint, St Therese of Liseux. If you haven't watched this video, or listened to it really (it's just a recording), of her little book Story of a Soul, do yourself a favor and listen. It'll change your life.

What St Therese taught me, and Bl Maria Ludovica reaffirmed, is to be kind and loving to everyone. Yes, I know that's what Jesus taught us and one of the basic tenets of our faith. But St Therese taught me what it looks like. During her lifetime, none of the other nuns in her convent had any idea which nuns she liked and which ones got on her nerves or made her mad. She treated everyone with such love and kindness that everyone thought she loved them.

I'm not like that. I love many people, but there are some people who make me angry or disappoint me, and I'm not good at being so kind and loving to them that they don't know how I feel. I need to be more like St Therese, and like Bl Maria Ludovica.

God, thanks for the great example of this saintly woman who helped so many in the hospitals of Argentina. Blessed Maria Ludovica de Angelis, pray for us.
