St Andre Bessette: The Incredible Power of Humility

Today in the wonderful book entitled In Caelo et in Terra, we read about a wonderful man. Brother Andre is what his many friends called him. He was a doorkeeper at Notre Dame, and was not bright enough to have any job more complicated than that. So how could he be a saint with that kind of limitation, right? Don't you have to be smart to be a saint?

Well, Brother Andre had a devotion to St Joseph. He would frequently ask for St Joseph's intercession, and many miracles and healings happened because of his prayers. Over 400 people were healed in one year alone! When Brother Andre passed away at the wonderful old age of 91, over a MILLION PEOPLE came to his funeral. For a doorkeeper!! He was the humblest of humble men, and God heard his prayers. Let's learn from his example, and fearlessly pray that God will work in the lives of people around us.

God, thank you for the wonderful example of St Andre Bessette. Brother Andre, pray for us.
