Today we read about Saint Alix le Clerc in the little book In Caelo et in Terra. She was an interesting saint, and you can read about her here.
But I want to focus on two things about her remarkable life. First, she started off as a party girl, kind of like St Augustine started off as a party man. She was living a life of parties and hollow fun, until one day she got sick. While she was recuperating, she began meditating on the way she was living her life. She realized that her life was hollow and full of nonsense. So she dedicated her life to God. God showed her the Blessed Virgin Mary with a child, and St Alix was told to take care of that child. By this, she knew that God meant for her to take care of children and to follow her dream of opening a school for girls. So she did, and the rest of her life was amazing.
But let's back up. She was living a pointless and selfish life, and then one day she got sick. Now, she could have fallen into self pity and adopted a victim mentality, which so many people do and they never escape from it. But instead, she did what we should all do - she meditated and prayed about her situation. And then God took her illness, which she considered to be a bad thing, and turned it into the best thing that ever happened to her.
Are you suffering right now? Or are you maybe living a life that feels empty and selfish and pointless? Think about that... and what St Alix did.
Let God take your present circumstances and turn them into the best thing that ever happened to you.
God, thank You for the great example of the life of this saint. St Alix le Clerc, pray for us.
