Today in the book In Caelo et in Terra, we read about Blessed Regina Protmann. When she was young, she felt God was calling her to help the sick and to educate young people. Does that sound familiar? Seems that most of our saints were called to help the poor and the sick, doesn't it? Some things never change.
But one thing that DID change due to Bl Regina Protmann was how women were involved in this kind of work. She felt that God was calling her to begin a religious life, and even enlisted the help of Jesuits to write a rule for her order. But the religious order she was founding was not a cloistered group of praying nuns (as invaluable as those groups are to the kingdom of God), but rather a group that would work among the people in service to the poor. At first people did not accept her new idea. But she felt that God was calling her to do it, so she faithfully did so until the idea became accepted among God's people.
God is calling you to do work today, there's no doubt. Is He calling you to work among the poor? Is He calling you to religious life? Is He maybe calling you to something new? Let's listen to His calling, and be patient until we understand what He wants, and until others do, too.
God, thanks for the example of this patient woman. Bl Regina Protmann, pray for us.
